In the Teaneck fire that killed two people, a man deliberately lit himself on fire, according to authorities.

Authorities said that one of the victims of the February Teaneck fire—which killed two others and injured a third—was a man who deliberately set himself on fire.

The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office announced that 35-year-old Ranjodh Singh IV and 44-year-old Manjinder Kaur passed away after being transported to the hospital. The investigation was ended by law enforcement. Per the prosecutor’s office, Singh used an accelerant to deliberately set himself ablaze in his Palisade Avenue basement apartment on February 19.

The 47-year-old who managed to escape the inferno is still in the hospital recovering from the horrific burns he suffered.

Fire departments from Teaneck, Hackensack, and Englewood worked with the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office and the Teaneck police department to aid in the investigation.
