Elgin, IL– A man from Elgin, found guilty in October of child sexual assault, has been sentenced to 49 years in prison, as reported by the Kane County state’s attorney’s office on Saturday.
Ernesto Velasquez-Jimenez, 36, faced a conviction in October on multiple charges related to the sexual assault and abuse of a child. The individual is required to register as a sex offender for the entirety of his life.
According to a prepared statement from the Kane County State’s Attorney, Velasquez-Jimenez committed multiple acts of abuse against the child, who was under 13, between October 2021 and June 2023. Evidence was also presented by prosecutors indicating that the defendant had mistreated the victim’s sibling in DuPage County.
“The actions of the defendant have irrevocably impacted the lives of the children he harmed, yet their courage in speaking out ensures that such acts will not be repeated,” stated Kane County State’s Attorney Jamie L. Mosser in a prepared statement.
Mosser commended the survivors for their courage in speaking out, noting that “their victim impact letters were acknowledged and factored into this 49-year sentence.” Their voices ensured that the defendant faced consequences for his actions and will safeguard other children from potential harm at his hands.
Mosser expressed gratitude to Bikers Against Child Abuse and the Elgin Crisis Center for their ongoing support during the sentencing process.
