Idaho Doctor Placed Hidden Camera in Staff Bathroom; Arrested after Recorded Videos Busted by Authorities

A case involving an orthopedic surgeon who allegedly concealed a camera in a staff bathroom at his medical office has been transferred to the district court.

A 68-year-old man named Spencer Greendyke is facing serious charges related to sexual exploitation of a child and video voyeurism. He is accused of preparing sexually exploitative material and committing multiple counts of video voyeurism, all of which are considered felonies.

In March, an employee of Greendyke’s medical office, River’s Edge Orthopedics, reached out to the Coeur d’Alene police regarding digital storage devices.

A news release stated that the devices discovered contained video footage of individuals in various stages of undress, apparently recorded by a hidden camera in a staff bathroom. According to court documents, the recordings showed individuals of various ages, including both adults and children. All the victims have been identified.

Authorities were granted a search warrant for Greendyke’s medical office and residence.

A news release stated that during the execution of the search warrant, more pieces of evidence were found and confiscated.

On April 4th, the police obtained a warrant for Greendyke’s arrest, amounting to $1.5 million. Greendyke surrendered to authorities the next day and was able to secure his release by posting bail. As part of his release terms, he has handed over his passport and is required to stay in Idaho.

Greendyke chose not to have a preliminary hearing this week, and the case was sent to the district court for further proceedings. It is anticipated that he will make a plea during an arraignment hearing set for July 23.

In Idaho, the act of sexually exploiting a child through the creation of sexually exploitative material can result in a maximum prison sentence of 30 years. Similarly, video voyeurism is punishable by up to five years in prison.

Greendyke is currently dealing with a civil lawsuit filed by 16 anonymous plaintiffs, which includes former employees and their families. Greendyke’s wife and medical practice have also been included in the lawsuit.

In April, a civil complaint was filed alleging that Greendyke secretly installed hidden cameras in sensitive areas of the office, recording video and audio without the consent or knowledge of those being recorded. According to court documents, this behavior supposedly started as far back as 2005.

The plaintiffs have also claimed that Greendyke engaged in covertly recording surgical procedures and capturing footage of visitors at his residence.

Three individuals claim that they were forced to resign from their jobs at Greendyke due to unbearable working conditions as per CDA Press.

The civil complaint states that the plaintiffs are experiencing significant emotional distress, accompanied by physical symptoms, as a result of the facts and consequences mentioned above.

The plaintiffs have requested a jury trial and are seeking awards exceeding $10,000 for both economic and non-economic damages.
