On Thursday morning, the social media accounts of CHP Hayward shared information regarding the incident. Late Wednesday night, around 11:30 p.m., officers tried to pull over a vehicle speeding at 90 mph, but the female driver chose to evade them.
Authorities initiated a stop on southbound I-880, just north of I-238, and the pursuit continued along the same route, according to CHP.
After a thrilling chase, the woman behind the wheel left the highway, came to a halt, and fled from her vehicle. She attempted to escape on foot, with her four-year-old child following closely behind in the car. The suspect was ultimately captured on Hesperian Blvd.
Upon her apprehension by the authorities, it was revealed that her blood alcohol concentration was nearly double the legal threshold of .08%, and this incident marked yet another offense in her history. A male passenger in the car was also taken into custody for being illegally in possession of a loaded firearm.
A 24-year-old woman named Imai Jayla Nicole Eills has been identified as the suspect in a DUI incident. Authorities have verified that she was taken into custody in September for driving under the influence. Ellis has been taken into custody and is now at Santa Rita jail facing serious charges, including felony evasion, driving under the influence, and endangering a child.
A 25-year-old man named Clinton James Bailey, Jr. has been identified as the passenger. He was taken into custody and charged with firearm offenses.
“Officers were horrified to discover a child was in the vehicle during these reckless acts,” the post read. “They acted swiftly and safely apprehended both suspects, ensuring the child was unharmed.”
