A 77-year-old woman is accused of killing a guy during “harmless banter” by shooting him in the groin.
According to multiple news outlets, an elderly woman in Ohio has been taken into custody after allegedly shooting a man to death over a comment made during “harmless banter” between the two.
According to Cincinnati Police, Arthur Osborne, 58, was shot and killed in an apartment in Cincinnati, Ohio, on Sunday, October 20.
Osborne was shot in the pelvis region, according to WKRC, WLWT, and the Cincinnati Enquirer, which cited investigators and court records.
In connection with the murder, authorities detained 77-year-old Kathleen Geiger, Cincinnati police told PEOPLE.
Geiger told police that she and Osborne had been “engaged in harmless banter” at the time of the incident, according to an affidavit that was quoted.
According to the complaint, Geiger allegedly told police that Osborne then “jokingly” begged him to shoot him.
According to the Cincinnati Enquirer, WLWT, WCPO, and the affidavit, she allegedly shot him in the pelvis area because she thought the gun was unloaded.
Geiger allegedly shot Osborne in the crotch, according to court records and authorities quoted by WLWT and WKRC, respectively. Police in Cincinnati declined to comment to PEOPLE.
According to WKRC, FOX 19, and the Cincinnati Enquirer, police said Geiger phoned 911 and provided medical assistance to Osborne.
Geiger was charged with reckless homicide, according to Hamilton County online court records, and her bond was set at $10,000.
She has not filed a plea, according to court records.
