Gunfire Erupts in Frederick Motel Standoff: Suspect Wanted for Child Abuse Shot

Frederick, MD- An individual sought for child abuse charges was injured in a confrontation with law enforcement officers at a Super 8 Motel in Frederick.

Authorities were dispatched to a motel on Monocacy Boulevard in response to an incident that occurred shortly before midnight on Thursday. Authorities were in pursuit of a 45-year-old man sought for child sexual assault and abuse charges in Beaver County, Pennsylvania.

Police have confirmed that the authorities found the vehicle connected to the wanted suspect on the property. Additionally, they have determined that the man in question was registered at the motel.

Officials reported that law enforcement successfully established communication with the individual inside the room. However, the suspect adamantly refused to come out, claiming to be armed.

More units from the sheriff’s office and Frederick City Police arrived at the scene. In the early hours of the morning, the situation took a dangerous turn as gunfire erupted.

A suspect was shot by law enforcement and received immediate medical attention from deputies and EMS personnel at the scene. A Maryland State Police helicopter transported him to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Unit in Baltimore, where he is currently in critical but stable condition.

Authorities have reported that during the incident, a Frederick City Police officer with 8 years of service and a Frederick County sheriff’s deputy with 8 years of service discharged their firearms, as revealed by the preliminary investigation.

Officials confirmed that no law enforcement officers or motel guests were injured during the incident.

Both the Frederick City Police officer and the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office deputy have been placed on administrative leave with pay while the investigation is ongoing.

The ongoing investigation will be handled by the Maryland State Police.
