Recently published police documents reveal shocking information regarding a Scottsdale grandmother and her spouse, who have been taken into custody on charges of mistreating and murdering her grandson.
On January 30, 2022, authorities discovered the lifeless body of 11-year-old Chaskah Davis Smith in a bathroom at a Scottsdale Extended Stay motel.
“The child looked pale, lifeless, and had a fixed gaze with eyelids slightly open,” said one Scottsdale police officer in a newly released police report.
Chaskah Davis was unresponsive.
The officer observed that the child bore numerous fresh wounds across his body, particularly on the head, where patches of hair were absent, revealing a serious injury beneath.
Authorities have taken Stephanie Marie Davis and her spouse, Thomas James Desharnais, into custody, facing charges of child abuse and first-degree murder. Authorities are pursuing capital punishment.
Davis made the call to emergency services. This week, the police made the transcript public.
She urgently requests an ambulance, stating that her grandson is not breathing and is in the bathtub.
She repeatedly raises allegations that the 11-year-old was inflicting harm on himself, a narrative she maintained even in the presence of law enforcement.
She subsequently mentioned that she tried to perform CPR prior to the arrival of first responders at the location.
According to statements made to the authorities, both Davis and Desharnais reported that the child was striking himself.
Nonetheless, one officer noted in his report that he found it difficult to accept Desharnais’ version of events.
A paramedic present at the scene expressed skepticism about the possibility of Chaskah’s injuries being self-inflicted, citing the significant force involved.
In a surprising turn during the report, Desharnais retracted his earlier claims and informed the police that Davis was mistreating her grandchildren.
He continued by stating that she struck both with a tool, that they received very little nourishment, and that she cut and pierced the grandchildren with a blade.
Authorities examined the evidence and discovered a shock collar in the hotel room; however, they noted that there were no indications of any dogs residing with them.
One officer remarked on how unexpectedly composed Davis appeared during her arrest.
The proceedings for Davis and Desharnais are anticipated to take place next year.
