Honk News– (Clayton County, GA) – A man from Georgia has been found guilty of murder following the jury’s review of evidence from his Instagram account, which revealed his intention to “pop and dip” just moments before he shot his victim.
Shamel Crowder, 24, received a guilty verdict in Clayton County Superior Court on December 30, after a trial that wrapped up on December 20, marking three years since the shooting death of Geoffrey Canty, 19. On the same day the decision was reached, Crowder received a sentence of life imprisonment without the chance of parole, in addition to 25 years.
The district attorney’s office reports that on the afternoon of December 20, 2021, Crowder arranged to meet with Canty to facilitate the sale of a firearm for a price of $300. However, following the transaction, Crowder fired three shots into Canty’s abdomen with the firearm he had agreed to sell. Crowder took the cash and the firearm, abandoning Canty to perish in the parking lot of his job.
Two individuals who witnessed the crime were subsequently taken into custody and faced trial as co-defendants.

Some of the state’s case against Crowder relied on his own social media posts. The Clayton News-Daily revealed that the DA showcased Crowder’s Instagram post, which was created just moments prior to his meeting with Canty. In the post, Crowder allegedly mentioned his intention to “pop and dip.” The update was published mere moments prior to Crowder’s incident with Canty.
Crowder encountered several charges associated with the crime and was convicted of malice murder, two counts of felony murder, two counts of aggravated assault, and two counts of firearm possession during the commission of a felony.
