A Florida man convicted of murder suddenly jumped from his seat in the courtroom after a grieving father referred to him as a “animal” for taking the life of his teenage daughter over a pair of Yeezys.
During the sentencing on Friday, the family of 18-year-old Andrea Camps Lacayo had the opportunity to confront Adrian Cosby, who stands accused of taking the life of the high school senior in 2020.
“You are the epitome of evil and darkness that this world represents,” Camps Lacayo’s father Anthony Camps told Cosby in a victim impact statement according to NBC Miami. “There is no forgiveness on this earth for animals like you.”
“There’s only one place where animals like you belong and that’s in prison for the rest of your life,” added Camps, who was surrounded by family and his daughter’s high school sweetheart.
The remarks made by Camps regarding his daughter’s murderer triggered a violent outburst from the 23-year-old, occurring just steps away from the podium.
“What the f–k you talking about bitch,” Cosby yelled, as he stood up and attempted to lunge toward the family, the Miami Herald reported.
Court officers restrained Cosby and swiftly escorted him from the courtroom as he shouted additional profanities at Camps Lacayo’s family, who had to be restrained from approaching him.
Camps Locayo was on the verge of graduating from Terra Environmental Research Institute and had plans to pursue nursing at Florida International University when her life was tragically cut short.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, she and her boyfriend, Sergio Berben, were attempting to sell some of their personal items to generate income.
A couple arranged a meeting on April 7, 2020, to sell three pairs of Adidas Yeezy’s valued at $935 to Cosby and 19-year-old George Walton.
The pair encountered Walton in front of a deserted residence in Homestead close to Florida’s Turnpike.
Walton was requested to try on a pair of shoes created and introduced by rapper Kanye West, but Berben insisted on discussing payment, as reported by NBC Miami.
Cosby then moved to the driver’s side door of Berben’s vehicle and began shooting, hitting both Camps Locayo and Berben.
Berben sustained a graze wound to the arm, while Camps Locayo suffered at least one gunshot wound to the torso.
Berben sped away but soon stopped at the roadside upon realizing that his girlfriend was in critical condition, according to the report.
The young individual was drifting in and out of awareness when emergency personnel reached the scene.
Cosby has been convicted of serious charges, including first-degree murder, attempted murder, and attempted robbery involving a deadly weapon.
Following a 20-minute recess after the incident, Cosby returned to the courtroom, absent the Camps family.
Miami-Dade Circuit Court Judge Miguel M. De la O imposed two life sentences on Cosby.
In addition, he received a simultaneous 25-year sentence for the attempted robbery charge.
Earlier this year, Walton was found guilty of first-degree murder, first-degree attempted murder, and attempted robbery with a firearm for his involvement in the crime.
He received a life sentence as well.
