FEDS Claims a 3rd Grade Teacher in Texas Engaged in Drug Sales while in Class

The Southern District of Texas United States Attorney’s Office said on August 29 that the teacher was one of twenty individuals accused on allegations of trafficking in firearms and narcotics.

According to a press conference recorded by KHOU, U.S. Attorney Alamdar Hamdani said that elementary school teacher Jessica Ferguson was helping to collect cash and drugs on school property.

He claimed, “She was at school, taking part in that drug conspiracy, and she was on a call.” “And the kids are audible in the background.”

Ferguson is a teacher in the Sheldon Independent School administration. The administration sent McClatchy News an email announcing Ferguson’s placement on administrative leave. According to school officials, the arrest did not happen in front of kids.

Federal officials claim that on August 28, the teacher was called into the principal’s office and taken into custody.

The details of Ferguson’s lawyer were not provided.

An August 29 news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office stated that fifteen individuals were charged with conspiracy to distribute controlled narcotics and possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance. Officials stated that charges of illegal firearm ownership are also pending against others. The exact charges against Ferguson were not mentioned.

FBI Special Agent in Charge Doug Williams stated at a press conference that those detained were either affiliated with local criminal networks or the Houston-based “Rich Kingz” gang. According to Williams, the group is thought to be behind a long list of crimes, including “several” killings.

According to Williams, investigators are hoping to “connect the dots” on unsolved killings. The deaths that the prosecution believes the group is involved in were not made clear.

According to federal officials, one of the “Rich Kingz” gang’s commanders was also taken into custody. According to Hamdani, he is charged with spreading cocaine throughout Texas, the Midwest, and the East Coast.

“Drug trafficking is a widespread issue that continues to claim lives in Houston and across the United States,” stated Hamdani. “The violence that coexists with drug trafficking claims lives. People who use those narcotics and overdose lose their lives. Communities that are left devastated and demolished in their aftermath lose life as a result.

Sheldon is located roughly 20 miles northeast of Houston by car.
