Houston, TX– A woman from Montgomery County expresses her gratitude for surviving a terrifying dog attack that resulted in numerous injuries for her and her family.
The stitches on Michelle Means’ face reveal just a fraction of her ordeal; on Thursday, she shared with KHOU 11 that her whole body continues to ache following a brutal incident that required hospitalization.
A woman was viciously attacked by a pack of eight pit bulls while trying to assist her son and pregnant daughter, who had been targeted during a walk close to their residence. She mentioned that someone else in the neighborhood was also assaulted, although she is unsure of the extent of their injuries.
Means characterized the alarming event as a startling and aggressive confrontation.
“They’re chomping down on you and just pulling you apart piece by piece,” she said. The attack left her with serious wounds, requiring two surgeries and rabies treatment.
On Monday, an event took place in the Willis neighborhood, where Means and her daughter reside just a few doors apart. Initially, Means received a call from her 13-year-old son, who was in tears and distressed after he and his sister were attacked by the dogs. As Means hurried to assist, she found herself encircled by eight pit bulls that attacked her face, neck, arms, and legs.
In the face of her serious injuries, Means continues to express gratitude.
“Everywhere they bit they got down to it, but they didn’t get muscle, they got down to the nerves, but they didn’t get the nerves,” she said. “It could’ve been so much worse, and I realize how blessed I am to get out of it the way I did.”
Despite the fact that the dogs were owned by a familiar neighbor, Means holds no resentment towards the owners. Following the incident, she learned that the dogs were beyond rehabilitation and would be euthanized.
“Even if a dog looks friendly, it doesn’t mean it’s friendly. Even if you don’t provoke them, it doesn’t mean they won’t attack,” she said. “I don’t blame the owners, but I sure would hate for this to happen to anybody else.
