Drug Sting in Lincoln Uncovers Meth, Bomb, and Child in Dangerous Situation; Leads to 3 Arrests

According to court records, a drug sting in central Lincoln resulted in the discovery of half a pound of methamphetamine and a vehicle containing a child and a bomb.

54-year-old Bernie Campbell and two others were apprehended by authorities on Monday evening as part of a drug investigation. Campbell is facing multiple charges including drug-related offenses, child abuse, and possession of a destructive device.

Authorities were getting ready to carry out a search warrant at a residence located in the vicinity of 17th and Burr Streets on Monday. While observing the residence, a car with a child in the front seat departed the parking lot and came to a halt at the D’Leon’s restaurant located near 12th and South streets.

Authorities discovered a small quantity of marijuana in the vehicle after Campbell was apprehended and taken into custody, as stated in an arrest affidavit. During the search, both the vehicle and Campbell’s person were thoroughly examined by authorities. They discovered a significant amount of cash totaling $3,140, as well as a suspected bomb.

A potential explosive device was reported as a small tube measuring six inches in length, with a fuse attached. Explosive experts swiftly responded to the incident and safely extracted the device from the car.

Upon returning to the residence, additional authorities carried out the search warrant and found three individuals present. Two individuals have been apprehended. According to the police, an individual was found in possession of a backpack containing 27.3 grams of methamphetamine, as well as a digital scale and drug paraphernalia.

According to the affidavit, the other individual was found in possession of a purse containing a small quantity of methamphetamine and crushed pills.

A safe belonging to Campbell was discovered by authorities, which reportedly contained a significant amount of methamphetamine, marijuana, a substantial sum of cash, a digital scale, and drug paraphernalia.

Authorities later discovered that the child was residing in the residence, and they observed that it was untidy and lacking a designated space or sleeping arrangement for the child. According to court records, it was discovered that drugs were accessible to the child within the residence.

Campbell was arraigned on five charges Tuesday afternoon, and a judge set his bond at 10% of $750,000. The next court date is scheduled for September 12th.
