Delivery Drivers worried after Armed Robbery Incidents rise in DC, UPS and Amazon Drivers are the Recent Targets

Washington DC: The delivery drivers in Washington DC are overwhelmed after a string of back-to-back armed robberies happened in the capital.

The recent incident unfolded on Tuesday. The armed robbers carried out two armed assaults targeting UPS and Amazon trucks in southeast Washington, D.C. Both the robberies were just thirty minutes apart.

According to Fox 5 DC, the Metropolitan Police Department reported an armed robbery of a UPS vehicle driver in the 1000 block of Cook Drive Southeast on Tuesday morning.

Then, approximately thirty minutes later, an Amazon truck driver became a victim of a second armed robbery in the 800 block of Cook Drive Southeast.

The capital is battling with the recent surge of crime in the city. A truck carrying an Amazon delivery driver was stolen in November in Washington, D.C.

“This is a very unique time that we’re in,” said President and CEO of Metropolitan Protective Services Derrick Parks, who referred to a rash of armed vehicle robberies recently in the area.

“We’ve noticed that crime as it relates to robberies, whether it’s strong arm, carjackings, whether it’s theft from auto, all of those items are up,” Parks said.

Parks said he believes delivery drivers are specifically being targeted. The authorities are still looking for the suspects and no arrest has been made in any of the mentioned matters.
