Dead Infant found in Rotten State in Mother’s Car Trunk in Kentucky; Mom Arrested by Authorities

In Kentucky, authorities arrested a 22-year-old woman over the weekend when they discovered a deceased newborn baby in the trunk of her car, in an advanced state of decomposition.

Daira T. Mejia Aguilar was arrested on Saturday and is facing charges of abuse of a corpse in relation to the infant’s death, according to records reviewed by Law&Crime.

Police officers from the Louisville Metro Police Department were called to an apartment on Zorn Avenue after receiving a report about a deceased infant being hidden inside the residence. The incident occurred on Saturday, July 6, at around 8 p.m., according to Louisville ABC affiliate WHAS.

As per a report by Louisville Fox affiliate WDRB, the caller informed the 911 dispatcher that the baby had been concealed in a bag and kept in a closet.

Upon arriving at the address, first responders noted that they inspected a closet and discovered a bag that was infested with flies and had potential blood stains on it.

Police also reached out to Mejia Aguilar at the residence. When asked about the baby’s location, she reportedly confessed to having delivered a newborn on Tuesday, July 2.

Mejia Aguilar was arrested and read her Miranda rights. She allegedly confessed to not reporting the child’s death and keeping its remains in her home.

Authorities have reportedly discovered the remains of a deceased newborn in the trunk of a car that Mejia Aguilar has confirmed as her own. According to WDRB, investigators described the baby as a full-term newborn in the early stages of decomposition. The baby was found wrapped in a blanket and placed inside a trash bag.

The gender of the victim was not revealed by authorities.

Mejia Aguilar appeared in Jefferson County Court of Justice on Monday for her arraignment, where she pleaded not guilty, according to Louisville NBC affiliate WAVE. She was later placed under home incarceration by a judge.

News from Louisville Authorities are currently awaiting the results of a pending autopsy to determine the cause of death and the circumstances surrounding the unfortunate incident.

Mejia Aguilar’s next court appearance is set for July 16.
