In a moment of rage after losing a video game, a father in Kentucky who is 32 years old will spend decades in prison for the murder of his newborn baby. The father fatally punched the infant’s head, causing serious injuries to the child.
This past Thursday, a judge from the Jefferson Circuit Court issued an order that Anthony Trice must serve twenty years in a state penitentiary facility for the savage murder of little De’Anthony Trice, which occurred in 2019.
After initially being charged with one crime of domestic violence murder and one count of first-degree child abuse, Trice negotiated a deal with the prosecution in November and agreed to enter an Alford plea to one count of first-degree manslaughter. This was the first time that Trice had been prosecuted with any of these charges. In exchange for his plea, the remaining accusations against him were withdrawn by the prosecution.
If a defendant maintains their innocence yet acknowledges that the state possesses sufficient evidence to convict them at trial, they are said to have entered an Alford plea.
Trice was reportedly at his residence in the 1100 block of West Jefferson Street on the evening of May 3, 2019, when the incident took place, as stated in an arrest report obtained by the Louisville Fox station WDRB. The report was received from the Louisville Metro Police Department.
It is said that he was working on a video game in his bedroom at the time of the incident. It is said that Trice started losing the game at some point, and he became so enraged that he hurled the remote control because of his frustration. The authorities stated that Trice continued to be upset and then proceeded to punch his baby, who was only one month old, in the skull with a closed hand.
The young youngster reportedly started crying uncontrollably after being injured by the object. Before carrying the boy into the kitchen, Trice picked up the boy and made an attempt to comfort him before he was carried there.
On the other hand, it is said that Trice dropped the victim onto the ground when he was on his way to the cooking station. After that, he scooped up his baby, went and grabbed him a bottle, and then carried his son back into his bedroom, where he “propped him up in a seated position,” according to the authorities.
WLKY, a CBS station in Louisville, claimed that Trice went to the restroom after placing a blanket in front of the boy in the bedroom to hold the bottle in his mouth. Trice then went to the bathroom.
When Trice came from the bathroom, he saw that his son was “in distress,” and he immediately dialed 911 to report the situation.
The Courier-Journal said that emergency medical professionals arrived at the residence and transferred the youngster to Norton Children’s Hospital after receiving the child’s condition.
Trice called the child’s maternal grandmother at some point after the violent episode, but before the authorities arrived. This conversation took place before the authorities arrived.
“He was like, ‘Get to the hospital. The baby was throwing up milk,’” the grandmother, Tanjia Howlett, reportedly stated. “So, I told my daughter, ‘Why would he take the baby to the hospital for choking on baby milk?’”
De’Anthony was first admitted to the hospital in a “serious” condition; however, the boy ultimately succumbed to his injuries and was proclaimed dead two days after his arrival.
