Boston, MA: Federal prosecutors have announced that a pediatric cardiac anesthesiologist at Boston’s Children’s Hospital has been detained on suspicion of possessing and distributing child sexual abuse material.
The 35-year-old physician was detained pending a hearing Tuesday, according to a news release from the U.S. attorney’s office, after making an initial appearance in court on Friday.
The accusations are the result of a search of his residence and phone. It is alleged that he possessed and disseminated videos with knowledge between July 1 and July 18.
A telephone number for the anesthesiologist was not located. An email was sent on Saturday to request a response from his attorney.

The man’s employment at Boston Children’s Hospital was terminated subsequent to his arrest, according to a statement.
According to a police affidavit submitted in court, the anesthesiologist had commenced a fellowship at the hospital on July 1 and had previously worked at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore.
In May, a federal investigation was initiated in Baltimore regarding a member of a group that utilized an encrypted messaging application that necessitated users to submit nude images of children. The affidavit stated that the anesthesiologist was identified as the user.
