A friend found the woman’s headless body, and her grandson admitted to the crime. A man from California has admitted to killing his grandma. In November 2023, a friend found her headless body in her home.
The Press Democrat reported that Elvia Lopez-Arroyo, 64, was killed by her grandson, Luis Gustavo Aroyo-Lopez, in her Santa Rosa, Calif., home on November 2. This was just days after he got out of state jail for assault and having a gun.
Luis, who is now 24 years old, was a suspect from the start. After Elvia’s death, Santa Rosa police said he killed her “in a targeted attack before leaving the scene with the female victim’s head.”
The Press Democrat said that Luis pleaded guilty to killing his grandma on Tuesday in court.
When police went to Elvia’s house on November 2 after getting a call about a murder, they found her head cut off, the police department said in a statement at the time.
According to the statement, Luis was caught by San Francisco police on November 4. He was charged with murder and breaking the terms of his community supervision after being released from prison.
CBS News reported after the murder that Elvia’s friend found her body. The neighbor only gave her name as Jessica. She told the news station that she saw Luis going “at a normal pace” to the victim’s house on the day of the murder.
The neighbor said that Elvia sounded “surprised and happy” when she saw Luis. After a few hours, Jessica saw Elvia’s friend getting scared and running in and out of the house.
“She kept yelling: ‘No head!'” CBS News said that Jessica remembered how her friend reacted.
After her death, one of her grandkids started a GoFundMe to help pay for her funeral. On the page to raise money, she was honored as a loving grandmother.
“She was a kind person who loved all of her grandchildren very much.” The fundraiser said, “She didn’t deserve what was done to her.”
According to The Press Democrat, Luis did not say why he killed him. The outlet said that he will be back in court on June 27 for his sentence.
