A 51-year-old man in California is facing severe legal consequences for his actions. He confessed to abducting his twin 2-year-old girls and deliberately driving his pickup truck off a cliff into the water following a dispute with the girls’ mother.
Robert Brians entered a guilty plea on Friday for multiple charges, including attempted murder, kidnapping, child abuse, burglary, and domestic violence.
Amazingly, Brian and the two toddlers managed to survive the accident with severe injuries, even though the pickup truck flipped over and plunged into the water upside down.
Following negotiations between Brians’s defense attorney and prosecutors, a plea deal was reached resulting in the dismissal of several lesser charges.
As per a report by City News Service, officers from the San Diego Police Department initiated a search for Brian at around 4:30 a.m. on June 13, 2020. This action was prompted by a 911 call made by his ex-wife, who reported that he had taken their twin toddlers from his parent’s house without consent.
After taking his daughters, Brians sent his ex-wife a series of disturbing text messages, expressing a dangerous intent towards the girls.
According to City News, a message was sent saying, “The girls are going to Heaven and I’m going to Hell to wait for you.”

A report from KNSD, the NBC affiliate in San Diego, revealed that Brians’ ex-wife provided testimony in court, alleging that Brians had sent her multiple threatening messages that morning, expressing his intention to drive himself and their children off a cliff.
Brians was later captured on a traffic camera at 5:09 a.m. driving at a high speed before abruptly veering off the Sunset Cliffs in the Point Loma community of San Diego.
During the incident, Brians was allegedly released on bond for a different felony charge.
According to Detective Aletha Lennier of the San Diego Police Department, Brians had made a disturbing post on Facebook a few hours prior, expressing his intention to send his babies to Heaven.
According to reports, authorities were able to locate Brians in the Sunset Cliffs area using his cellphone. Patrol officers noticed his vehicle right before it went over the edge of the cliff. A skilled canine officer swiftly arrived at the scene and utilized a lengthy dog leash to descend down the cliff and reach the water below, successfully locating Brians and the girls.
KNSD reported that according to the officer, Brians was in the water expressing his concerns about his ex-wife while ensuring the safe return of all three individuals to shore.
Jonathan Wiese, the canine officer, was honored with a Carnegie Medal for his courageous actions.
According to reports, Brians has reached a plea deal that involves a sentence of 31 years in a state correctional facility. His sentencing hearing is scheduled for Sept. 20.
