San Antonio, TX– Two kids were taken to the hospital with serious injuries following a pit bull attack at an apartment complex, as reported by San Antonio police.
On Saturday at approximately 3 p.m., an incident occurred involving children at an apartment complex located in the 4200 block of West Commerce Street.
Authorities reported that a woman caring for a 1-year-old and a 3-year-old was giving a bath to the pit bull prior to the event.
After the woman completed bathing the pit bull, authorities reported that it dashed into a bedroom where the two girls were present.
The pit bull reportedly attacked the two girls, resulting in significant injuries. Authorities reported that a 1-year-old girl was bitten on her face above her eye, while a 3-year-old girl sustained injuries to her lip and upper arm.
The pit bull was taken by Animal Care Services. Authorities have launched an investigation into a potentially dangerous dog. The pit bull will be quarantined while the investigation continues, according to SAPD.
The owner of the pit bull and the babysitter are facing two criminal citations each due to the attack, as the dog lacked the necessary rabies vaccination and microchip.
The investigation is underway, and the dog is now in the care of ACS. It is evident that careless pet ownership is the main reason behind such unfortunate events, and the incident today could have been entirely avoided,” stated ACS in a release on Saturday.
