Alabama Woman Tied Disabled Relative to Table using Zip Ties; Arrested after Authorities Discovered Emaciated Victim

A family member with intellectual disabilities who was left to the care of an Alabama woman is accused of being neglected and abused by the woman according to the charges.

Using zip ties to hold her relative to a table for “hours at a time, injuring her arm” and not feeding her to the point that she became malnourished are the allegations that have been made against Cora June Morris, according to the documents that have been filed before the court.

According to the findings of the investigation, the victim has Down syndrome.

In September, the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office received a notification from the Alabama Department of Human Resources regarding the possibility of abuse. This prompted the beginning of this inquiry.

According to a representative for the sheriff’s office, the victim has been removed from Morris’ custody by the Alabama Department of Human Resources for better care.

There was no instant information available to the deputies regarding her condition.

In accordance with Alabama Code 38-9-7, which contains provisions for the protection of elderly individuals and adults with disabilities, Morris is accused of committing acts of abuse and neglect that result in physical injury. There is a potential maximum punishment of twenty years in jail for the charge, which is classified as a Class B felony.

The investigation into the case is still ongoing by the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, which is trying to ascertain how long the alleged abuse was going on and whether or not additional charges are the appropriate response.

It has been reported by the deputies that the Owens House was also of assistance in the inquiry.
