A San Angelo City Animal Services officer was airlifted to Lubbock on Wednesday following an attack by two aggressive dogs, as stated in a press release.
San Angelo City Manager Daniel Valenzuela announced in a press release that an officer was dispatched to a report of several aggressive dogs in the vicinity of the 20th block of Cloud Street. Upon arrival, the officer discovered a minimum of 10 dogs that belonged to someone. According to witnesses, two big, aggressive dogs escaped when the owner opened the gate and attacked the officer.
Authorities confirmed that the dogs were put down with the owner’s consent. Valenzuela reported that the officer is in serious condition, suffering from several bite wounds, cuts, and a fractured arm.
“While we wait for further updates on the officer’s condition, I ask for this community to please pray for him and his family,” Valenzuela said. “This is a dedicated public servant whose life is at risk.”
The San Angelo Police Department is currently looking into the incident.
