Honk News (Fayetteville, NC) – A mother who adopted children in North Carolina has been accused by law enforcement of committing murder. One of her adopted daughters has come forward, claiming she was drawn into the chaos-driven concealment.
In June 2024, Avantae Deven, 63, faced serious charges including two counts of first-degree murder, concealment of death, and felony child abuse, along with one count of kidnapping, concerning the tragic deaths of Blake and London Deven, as reported by the Fayetteville Police Department.
A new member of the Deven family has stepped into the spotlight, revealing dark and shocking allegations regarding her involvement.
In September 2024, WRAL, the NBC affiliate in Raleigh, acquired a startling recording from an April 2022 phone call. During the conversation, an individual confesses to assisting in the dismemberment of Blake Deven’s body.
The audio, altered to obscure any identifying characteristics, includes the caller disclosing details about the boy’s purported demise.
“She starved him so much that she killed him, and then she didn’t call the ambulance,” the caller says. “She didn’t call the police. She didn’t try to make up a story to tell them ‘Oh, he passed away.’”
The television network, however, chose not to disclose the identity of the individual making those allegations since law enforcement did not file any charges against them.
Cherish Deven has now revealed that she is the voice behind that unsettling phone call, according to an update from WRAL earlier this week.
During a recent interview, the woman shared her memories of being 16 or 17 when her adoptive mother reportedly compelled her to dismember her brother. In the initial audio, she mentioned that she was 18 back then.
The television network inquired about the claims that her mother pressured her into fulfilling the distressing demand. The sister has not been charged with any offenses. She indicated that any law enforcement action of that nature is improbable.
Authorities suspect that Blake endured severe mistreatment and deprivation, leading to a tragic outcome as his frail body ultimately succumbed.
Blake’s last known sighting was in 2017 at the age of 10. According to investigators, the individual from London was a teenager at the time of her death and required a caregiver due to her special needs.
Their charred remains were discovered within a barrel.
Authorities report that Avantae Deven has adopted a total of five children. In total, there were three boys who are biologically connected to each other and two girls who are not related to the boys or to one another.
