Christopher King, 29, of Red Bluff was charged by a federal grand jury with three counts of attempted sexual exploitation of a child and distribution and possession of images showing a minor engaging in sexually explicit behavior. U.S. Attorney Phillip A. Talbert made the announcement. After he was arrested on Tuesday, the case was made public.
Court papers say that King tried to sexually abuse a minor by using a hidden camera to make secret recordings of the minor. Through an online social media site, King also shared pictures of kids doing sexually explicit things. Lastly, King had several pictures of children doing sexually explicit things on electronics that were taken from his home.
This case came about because Homeland Security Investigations looked into it. The case is being handled by Assistant U.S. Attorney Whitnee Goins.
If King is found guilty of trying to sexually exploit a child, he will have to serve at least 15 years in jail and no more than 30 years. He will also have to pay back the money he took and pay a $250,000 fine.
If King is found guilty of distributing a picture of a minor doing sexually explicit behavior, he will have to serve at least five years in jail and no more than twenty years. He will also have to pay a fine and be supervised for life. King could get 10 years in jail, be on supervised release for life, pay a fine, and pay restitution if he is found guilty of having a picture of a minor participating in sexually explicit behavior.
