Alert Day Issued for Saturday Night Through Sunday as Snow Moves Into Southwestern Wisconsin

MADISON, Wis. — The First Warn Weather Team has declared an Alert Day for Saturday night through Sunday morning as a winter system is expected to bring 1 to 4 inches of accumulating snow across parts of southwestern Wisconsin, potentially making for slick travel conditions late in the weekend.

What Forecasters Are Tracking

According to News 3 Now meteorologists, light snow and flurries will linger through Friday evening, producing less than 1 inch of accumulation across central and southern Wisconsin. Skies will stay mostly cloudy overnight with lows dipping into the upper teens and low 20s.

Conditions will turn cloudy again Saturday as the next wave of snow approaches from the west. Forecasters expect snow to develop by Saturday evening, marking the beginning of the Alert Day period.

“An additional 1–4 inches of snow is possible, especially in southwestern Wisconsin, where accumulation chances are highest,” meteorologists said. “Most areas will see totals closer to 1–3 inches.”

Travel and Weather Impacts

Road conditions are likely to deteriorate Saturday night as snow begins to stick, particularly in rural and untreated areas. Commuters and travelers are advised to drive cautiously, reduce speeds, and stay weather aware through Sunday morning.

Winds from the northwest at 10–15 mph could also lead to blowing snow in open areas, reducing visibility at times.

Temperatures will remain cold through the weekend, with highs in the low to mid-20s on Saturday and similar readings Sunday as the system moves out.

Extended Forecast: More Snow Chances Ahead

Forecasters expect the snow to taper off by mid-morning Sunday, leaving behind cloudy skies and flurries into Monday. However, another larger system is forecast to arrive Tuesday into Wednesday, potentially bringing another round of accumulating snow to parts of the Midwest.

Even more activity could follow later in the week, as another disturbance tracks across the region toward the end of the forecast period.

Meteorologists recommend keeping up with the latest forecasts as timing and snow totals could shift over the coming days.
