Two Killed, One Injured in Chain-Reaction Crash Involving Train and Multiple Vehicles in Lubbock County

Two people were killed and another injured early Thursday in a series of multi-vehicle crashes near Lubbock, Texas, involving a train, motorcycles, an SUV, and a pickup truck.

Multi-Vehicle Collision Details

The crashes occurred at 5:18 a.m. on U.S. Highway 84, about a third of a mile east of Southeast Drive. Five vehicles were involved in the chain-reaction accident.

  • A 1996 Harley Davidson motorcycle left the roadway, collided with a cable barrier, and crossed into the westbound lanes.
  • A 2016 Chevrolet SUV, traveling west, crashed into the motorcycle and skidded off the road into a north-barrow ditch near railroad tracks.
  • A passing train struck the SUV, but its driver was uninjured.

Victims Identified and Circumstances

  • 59-year-old Jerry Crisp of Lubbock, the driver of the first motorcycle, was pronounced dead at the scene. He was not wearing a helmet.
  • 37-year-old Christopher Lucero of Hale Center, the driver of the second motorcycle, later died at University Medical Center. He was wearing a helmet.
  • The driver of the 2020 Chevrolet pickup involved in the crash sustained minor injuries and was hospitalized.
