11-year-old Inappropriate Touched by Firefighter in Iowa; Suspect in Jail after Child Reported Abuse

Honk News (DECORAH, Iowa) – A firefighter of the Sioux City Fire Rescue has been accused of committing sexual abuse against a minor in northeast Iowa.

Court documents reveal that Justin Thompson, 47, from Sergeant Bluff, was taken into custody on January 23 and faces a charge of third-degree sexual abuse involving a child victim from Winneshiek County. The incident reportedly occurred in 2022.

In December 2024, the victim reported an alleged sexual assault to the Winneshiek County Sheriff’s Office via MercyOne in northeast Iowa. The individual known as Thompson has been recognized as the suspect.

According to court documents, the victim reported to officials that Thompson had engaged in inappropriate touching while at the victim’s family farm. An inquiry revealed that Thompson was present with the child at the farm in Decorah during the summer of 2022. The individual was reportedly 11 years old during the time of the supposed event.

Thompson was taken into custody on a warrant on January 24 but has since been released on bond.

A representative from the City of Sioux City has verified to KCAU 9 that Thompson remains an employee of the city.
