Infant Burnt to Death after Intoxicated Mother Blow Dried Son; Slept while Dryer was On in Georgia Residence

Honk News (Newnan, GA) – A mother in Georgia has been indicted by a grand jury for second-degree murder and cruelty to children following the tragic death of her infant son, who suffered fatal burns from a hair dryer.

On November 9, 2023, at approximately 2:30 p.m., the Coweta Sheriff’s Office received a call regarding an infant experiencing cardiac arrest at a residence on Kildare Court in Newnan, located about 40 miles southeast of Atlanta, as detailed in an incident report.

A deputy arrived at the residence and noticed the mother, 31-year-old Morgan Creel, positioned at the back door. She informed the deputies that her son, who was later identified as Carsynn Creel, was located in the back bedroom. The officer discovered the child unresponsive, with his outfit slightly askew.

The deputy, while administering CPR to Carsynn, observed that the boy seemed to have significant burns and discoloration on the right side of his body, according to the affidavit. Creel reportedly claimed that she was attempting to warm the boy’s feet by using a hair dryer. However, she soon drifted off to sleep. Upon waking, she found her son unresponsive and immediately dialed 911.

A legal document alleges that Creel subjected her son to “cruel and excessive physical and mental pain by leaving a blow dryer on and blowing heated air near said child while said accused was passed out under the influence of a controlled substance.” According to the incident report, investigators discovered a device used for smoking marijuana on the back porch.

In October, almost a year following her son’s passing, Creel faced arrest for driving under the influence while she was out on bond. She was allegedly maneuvering through traffic unpredictably. Upon being stopped by the police, Creel reportedly attributed her unpredictable driving to a sneezing fit. Creel was reportedly in such a state of intoxication that officers had to halt sobriety tests to ensure her safety. Authorities subsequently apprehended her.

Creel was taken into custody at the Coweta County Jail on January 24. As of Thursday morning, she was not recorded as an inmate at the jail. Her legal representation status remains uncertain.
