“I’m really impressed by the excellent work displayed in this video and the clever thinking of the victim who found a way to seek assistance,” Volusia Sheriff Mike Chitwood remarked.
Authorities have named the suspect as 27-year-old Luis Diego Hernandez-Moncayo, who is in the U.S. without legal status and allegedly sought asylum just one day before the event.
The sheriff reports that Hernandez-Moncayo is currently in custody, facing charges of attempted sexual battery, battery by strangulation, and false imprisonment, along with an immigration detainer from the U.S. Border Patrol.
