Toddler and Infant Brought to Hospital for Severe Bruising in Utah; Man Arrested after Kids’ Mother Reported Injuries

An individual is now facing charges related to child abuse following the hospitalization of two young children, aged 18 months and three years. The injuries sustained by the children prompted an examination, as stated in an affidavit of probable cause.

Alexander Liborio, 22, has been taken into custody for charges related to child abuse. He is facing one count of aggravated child abuse and one count of child abuse with injury.

As per the affidavit, Liborio was taking care of his roommate’s children while she was working a night shift. On the morning of Aug. 18, when the mother came back, officers informed her that another roommate had discovered markings on the children.

The 18-month-old child displayed physical injuries including a bruise and red marks on her forehead, bruising on her eyes, and a bloody nose. The affidavit states that medical staff expressed concerns about the child possibly having a skull fracture. However, the lab results were still pending when the document was filed.

According to documents, the child, who is three years old, had bruising on her face and forehead.

According to documents, a housemate claimed to have heard a noise resembling a baby falling off the living room couch around 5 a.m. At that moment, Liborio rose to attend to the baby, however, according to the affidavit, the baby’s crying persisted and the three-year-old appeared to be frightened and whimpering.

According to documents, the housemate reported that they heard Liborio expressing frustration with the children and making forceful attempts to calm them down before escorting them to their bedroom. According to the affidavit, the three-year-old claimed that her housemate, Liborio, struck her in the face.

According to reports, Liborio and another roommate were drinking on the night of the incident and were intoxicated. Liborio claimed to have no recollection of the events that transpired that night due to his excessive alcohol consumption.

According to him, he usually takes care of the children while their mother is at work. Upon awakening the following morning, he was greeted by the sound of his housemates engaged in a heated discussion regarding the children’s marks. It appears that he had entrusted the care of the children to his fellow roommates, as per the documents.

The children were transported to a children’s hospital following the incident, while Liborio was subsequently arrested and taken to the Salt Lake County Jail on the charges mentioned.
