A 51-year-old man named Laurence Clark has been given a 30-year prison sentence in Norfolk for child sexual abuse, according to a release.
Clark has been charged with the long-term abuse of a child relative. Last year, the victim bravely reported Clark’s abuse to Norfolk Police, despite facing threats of injury and death from Clark.
Clark entered a plea of no contest to 15 charges on May 17. The individual has been convicted of multiple serious offenses involving the abuse of a child.
The individual received a 30-year prison sentence, with an additional 150 years suspended under certain conditions. These conditions include completing 15 years of supervised probation after release and adhering to all recommended sex offender treatments and registry requirements.
“We are all grateful to the survivor of Mr. Clark’s abuse for so bravely coming forward and telling of the abuse she suffered at Mr. Clark’s hands,” said Commonwealth’s Attorney Ramin Fatehi. “This teenager showed more courage than many full-grown adults. Despite the threats of violence Mr. Clark made, the victim sought help, helped us hold Mr. Clark accountable, and protected others from Mr. Clark in the future.”
