16-year-old Offered Money for Inappropriate Acts by Science Teacher; Undercover Agent Busted Teacher in San Diego

A former science teacher and cross-country coach at University City High School was arrested last year for trying to meet up with a teenage girl for sex. On Thursday, he pleaded guilty to a federal count of trying to get a child to do something sexual.

He wanted to pay $140 for sex acts with someone he thought was a 16-year-old girl. Sean Stevenson is 58 years old. Steve Stevenson was caught at a bus stop, where he was met by a spy who had been talking to him for three weeks.

Stevenson was nabbed on October 24 when he showed up at the agreed-upon meeting spot with $140 in his car.

Court records show that the investigation into Stevenson began in April 2023, when a pimp and a prostitute were arrested. Investigators looked through the prostitute’s cell phone and found text messages between her and a number in the San Diego area that they say belonged to Stevenson.

Later, a police officer pretended to be the prostitute and, in texts to Stevenson, asked her 16-year-old cousin to have sex with her.

Stevenson’s mother was in court when he was charged. She was crying uncontrollably and told NBC 7 that she was heartbroken. She said she hadn’t talked to her son since he was arrested but wanted to be at the hearing so he could see her.

Stevenson will be given his sentence in September as reported by NBC7 San Diego.

“Instead of a protector, this teacher became a predator,” said Tara McGrath, the U.S. attorney for San Diego. The trust of kids, parents, and the whole community is broken by these horrible actions.
