Tutor Arrested after Multiple Students report Molestation and Assault at Charter School in Connecticut

BRIDGEPORT, CT: Police say a former tutor abused six of his students at a public charter school. On Monday, the school said they have banned the man from the middle school because of the accusations.

Police say that 47-year-old Jonas Sainvil, who worked at Achievement First Bridgeport Academy, raped female students in the classroom while he was meant to be helping them with their work.

They charged Sainvil on Friday with seven counts of fourth-degree sexual assault and eight counts of putting a child at risk of harm.

On March 15, six students said Sainvil had sexually abused them, and a seventh student said they had seen the claimed events. This is what the arrest warrant affidavit says happened.

The 11- and 12-year-old children told a police officer that Sainvil had touched them several times in February and March while he was helping them with schoolwork in the classroom, according to the affidavit.

The document says that one student said Sainvil would often drop his pencil while sitting next to her and look under her skirt as he picked it up. The statement says that Sainvil’s classmates said he would get very close to them while helping them with classwork and then touch them.

“At Achievement First, we move swiftly to respond to allegations of misconduct involving our students,” said Alessi. “When we first learned of the allegations against Mr. Sainvil, we immediately prohibited him from entering the school building. He has since been permanently banned from Achievement First. We also immediately notified the police and the Department of Children and Families.”

Sainvil is being held at $300,000 bond; the case is continued to May 24.
