Henderson, NV: The authorities in Nevada arrested the parents of an 11-year-old child after they discovered a metal cage in their house.
The 11-year-old child was kept in the cage for years. Parents claim that it was there to control their son. The 11-year-old has “severe Autism spectrum disorder.”
The Henderson Police Department announced in a statement that 46-year-old Misty Scanlan and 41-year-old Jeffery Scanlan were both arrested and charged with one count of child abuse and neglect.
Police responded to an allegation from the school district and arrived at the Scanlan house at approximately 10:15 a.m. on Tuesday, leading to the arrest. An investigation into a missing student led the school resource officer to the residence, where he or she heard cries for help.

According to KLAS, the father did not open the main door for 40 minutes. The officers discovered an 11-year-old child enclosed in a room with metal bars and doors that looked like a prison cell.
The boy was only wearing a diaper. His body and walls of the cage were smeared by the feces. Three other kids were present in the house throughout that period. According to KLAS, the father said the cage had been in the house for six years, while one of the children informed the police that it had been there for two years.
The 11-year-old was taken to the hospital for medical evaluation and the other kids were taken by the child protective authorities.
The parents were released on a $5,000 bond and are scheduled to appear in court in May.
