Prichard, Alabama: A shooting on a south Alabama road on Monday killed a 15-year-old girl and hurt a 9-year-old boy. The shooter intended to shoot someone else but two other persons were shot.
Mobile County Sheriff Paul Burch said the shooter was going after someone who was in the same car as the girl who was shot and killed around 3 p.m. on I-165 north of the Bay Branch Road exit near Prichard. One 9-year-old boy was also injured in the shooting.
Burch said the child is getting better at a hospital and is in stable health. The teenage girl died shortly after she was shot.
“There is a 15-year-old who lost her life, and a 9-year-old who was shot and neither were the intended targets,” Burch said.
“This was a rolling gun battle down the interstate. The intended target in the vehicle is at least known to the person who was shooting.”
The shooter has not been caught yet, and I-165 was closed Monday night by the police. The authorities have opened a probe to see whether the matter is related to some gang-related killings or not.
Burch also didn’t know if the person who was shot was driving or a passenger in the car, saying that “multiple people were inside the car that was shot.”
