If you like barbecue sauce or shop at Publix, you need to be careful. A brand of barbecue sauce was recently taken off the market. This is taking place because the sauce has an allergen that isn’t listed on the label. You can get the brand at Publix.
This affects all seven US states where the sauce is sold.
Ventura Foods is removing the Carolina-Style Mustard BBQ Sauce from Publix Deli because it contains Traditional Sweet & Spicy BBQ Sauce, which could have anchovies in it, which some people are allergic to.
According to a warning from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, eating the sauce could be very dangerous for people who are allergic to or very sensitive to fish and anchovies.
The recall will affect the following states:
- Alabama
- Florida
- Georgia
- North Carolina
- South Carolina
- Tennessee
- Virginia
The FDA says that no one has gotten sick from the sauce so far. The only Publix Deli Carolina-Style Mustard BBQ Sauce that is being recalled has a use-by date of April 8, 2024.
This recall only affects the items that were taken off the shelves at Publix. It does not affect any other Ventura Foods products.
People should either throw away the Publix Deli Carolina-Style Mustard BBQ Sauce right away or return it to their local Publix store and get their money back in full.
