An 8-year-old girl was freed from an armed smoke shop Wednesday night after her father held her hostage.
The child’s mother called 911 from the Heady Hittaz Headshop on Fillmore and Pennsylvania to say that her boyfriend was holding their child inside the building and making threats to hurt himself.
“The mother said that her boyfriend was pulling their 8-year-old daughter into the business against her will.” A CSPD lieutenant said, “She said the man had a gun inside the business and had threatened to hurt himself in front of her and the child.”
Springs police, UCCS police, and K-9s were put together to make a crisis entry team.
“Entry was gained into the business, the 8-year-old girl was taken out safely, and two adult males were detained without further incident,” the lieutenant said, adding that a semiautomatic handgun was also found at the scene.
The father was caught. It was stated that the child was not hurt.
