A woman was taken into custody on Friday following the discovery of injuries in a child under her supervision, which were indicative of shaken baby syndrome, as stated in the arrest documents.
Lindsay Johnson, 32, was taken into custody on November 29 for one count of aggravated child abuse, intentionally or knowingly, classified as a second-degree felony.
An affidavit of probable cause submitted in Summit County reveals that Johnson was the sole individual in contact with the 6-week-old child from 10 p.m. on November 26 until 7:30 a.m. on November 27.
“Both parents stated that at approximately 0700-0730 on the morning of 11/27/2024, after taking custody of the child from Ms. Johnson, the child was not responding appropriately and was found to be experiencing seizures, prompting them to take the child to a doctor,” the affidavit reads.
Following a visit to the doctor, the parents discovered that their child had sustained brain injuries, which medical professionals allegedly classified as “non-accidental trauma,” according to the affidavit.
According to arrest documents, two distinct X-rays of the child’s chest revealed a fractured rib, which physicians indicated was “inertia generated” and frequently observed in cases involving shaken baby syndrome.
The parents informed the authorities that the child was in good health prior to Johnson supervising the baby. Johnson stated to the officers that she was the sole individual who had interaction with the child throughout the night.
Johnson has been taken into custody regarding the stated allegation. At the start of November, she relocated to Utah, as stated in the affidavit, and the arresting officer indicated that she might attempt to escape to another state if granted bail.
