6-week-old Baby Boy Brutally Abused to Death by Mother; Arrested by North Carolina Authorities after Probe Ruled Death as Murder

A 21-year-old mother from Washington was arrested and charged with first-degree murder on Tuesday in connection with the death of her infant and the abuse of another child, according to police.

Briasia Somerville is charged with first-degree murder and felony child abuse related to the death of an infant.

Zamari Parker has been identified as the victim.

On September 2, the Washington Police Department received a report regarding the unusual death of a 6-week-old boy.

An infant received treatment at ECU Beaufort County the day before being transferred to ECU Medical Center, where he subsequently passed away.

Police reported that an autopsy revealed injuries indicative of abuse, leading to the classification of the death as a homicide.

Detectives obtained arrest warrants for Somerville, who is additionally facing a felony child abuse charge related to injuries sustained by her 5-year-old child.

Somerville has been arrested and is now being held without bond at the Beaufort County Detention Center as reported by WRAL News.
