A man from Lewis County faces allegations of sexually abusing a 5-year-old child, as reported by the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities reported that a 28-year-old man from Harrisville engaged in inappropriate conduct with a 5-year-old child in Diana on May 12. On June 7, officials were alerted and initiated an inquiry. Authorities reported that fresh details emerged, resulting in Vanweort’s arrest on September 26.
Authorities have announced that Vanweort faces a charge of first-degree sexual abuse, classified as a class D felony, along with a charge of endangering the welfare of a child. He appeared in court and was taken to the county jail without the option for bail. He is set to return to the courtroom.
Vanweort has been classified as a Level 2 sex offender. Records indicate that Vanweort has a history of serious offenses, having been convicted in 2015 for unlawful surveillance involving a 30-year-old woman in Watertown, as well as a conviction in 2014 for sexual abuse against an 8-year-old girl.
He received a sentence of 10 years probation in each of the two cases.
