A 4-year-old boy who went missing last year was found dead in a duffel bag in a pile of trash in Philadelphia. Police say he was beaten to death while his mother watched.
A worker cleaning up a trash-filled alley in West Philadelphia found Damari Carter’s decomposing body on March 18. However, the name of the dead boy was unknown until this week, according to The Philadelphia Inquirer.
There are now murder, abuse of a body, and other charges against Damari’s mother, Dominique Bailey, and her boyfriend, Kevin Spencer. This has shocked the child’s family, the news source said.
The Inquirer reported that Philadelphia police said Damari’s mother admitted that she saw Spencer beat her son so badly on December 7 that he passed out and his eyes turned black and his face swelled up.
Concerning the day he died, Dominique Bailey said she and Spencer left the flat to get Black & Mild Cigars, leaving the child asleep. When they came back, they found him not responding.

Spencer, she said, put him in a chair in the living room. But when she went to kiss her son good night a few hours later, he felt cold. According to reports, Spencer then threw the body away in a pile of trash.
“I’m just glad that his remains were found,” the boy’s aunt, Nakia Bailey, told reporters. “Because that was sitting not so well with any of the family, us not knowing where he was.
In January, police looked for Damari’s body but never found it. It wasn’t until the worker found the body that they called the police.
