A woman accused of child abuse and various drug-related crimes has been released from the Cecil County Detention Center. She is currently awaiting a preliminary hearing scheduled for later this month.
Andrea Wilkie, aged 42, is currently facing nine charges after a child abuse/neglect referral in January and an arrest warrant in May.
The Elkton Police Department received a referral regarding health concerns related to drug use, drugs in the home, and the well-being of a 4-year-old daughter.
“A significant amount of drug paraphernalia, along with small amounts of illegal drugs, was found in various areas of the home, including the daughter’s bedroom,” stated the Elkton police during the execution of the search warrant.
Additionally, the Elkton police have reported that Wilkie’s daughter has been taken out of the residence and placed under foster care. Subsequent medical examination revealed traces of various illicit substances in her system.
Elkton police reported that a needle-like puncture wound was found on the child’s foot. “Further testing revealed the presence of various narcotics, such as fentanyl, cocaine, and methamphetamines, in the child’s system.”
Wilkie is facing a range of charges, including second-degree child abuse, neglect of a minor, reckless endangerment, and possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia.
Wilkie surrendered to the police on June 19, nearly three weeks after the arrest warrant had been issued as per WBALTV News.
According to court records, she has been released on an unsecured personal bond of $5,000 after two unsuccessful attempts to secure bail. The hearing is set for July 17.
