30-year-old Man Arrested for Shooting Ex-girlfriend to Death in Miami Apartment

Miami, FL- Authorities have confirmed that an arrest has been made in connection with the death of a Miami woman. Her body was discovered inside her apartment over two months ago.

Officer Mike Vega, a spokesman for the Miami Police Department, reported that officers were alerted to an incident involving an unresponsive woman in an apartment building near the 400 block of Northeast 82nd Street. The call was received just before 8:30 a.m. on May 28.

A 41-year-old woman named Sujelry Brito was discovered deceased in her bedroom, having suffered a fatal gunshot wound. She was living alone at the time.

During the investigation, witnesses shared information about Brito’s former partner, a man named Larry Julius Burton Jr., who is 30 years old.

In the arrest report, detectives provided details about the vehicle Burton was driving, describing it as a white Chevrolet Tahoe that resembled an older police vehicle. They also confirmed that Burton had a history of domestic violence.

The report stated that surveillance footage captured a vehicle that matched Burton’s arriving and leaving the scene during the timeline of Brito’s murder.

Investigators received additional support for the video evidence when a witness, who was interviewed under oath, confirmed the presence of a Black male walking from the vehicle to Brito’s apartment on May 20 at around 5:44 p.m.

According to authorities, analysis of phone records obtained by Miami police detectives on May 30 revealed that Burton’s phone was in close proximity to the scene of the murder during the relevant time period.

Authorities discovered a Taurus G2C 9mm firearm concealed within a sofa cushion during a search at an address near the 6000 block of Northeast First Court. This discovery was made after investigators followed financial records.

Before carrying out the search warrant, Burton was discovered sitting in a vehicle, where authorities apprehended him on Friday.

Detectives have confirmed that Burton was taken to the MPD’s homicide office for questioning. During the questioning, he made a confession that was later redacted in the publicly released report.

According to Burton’s arrest report, he is being charged with second-degree murder, burglary of an occupied dwelling, and illegal possession of a weapon as a convicted felon.

As of Monday, he was being held without bond at the Miami-Dade County Pre-Trial Detention Center, and his bond has not yet been determined.

The motive behind the fatal shooting has not been revealed by the police.
