3-Month-Old Baby Drowns in Motel Bathtub on New Year’s Day, Kentucky Family Left Heartbroken after Loss

Honk News – (Louisville, KY) – A tragic incident occurred on New Year’s Day, as authorities report the death of a 3-month-old baby who drowned in a motel bathtub.

Emergency responders arrived at the motel located in the 6100 block of Airport Hotel Boulevard in Louisville shortly after 4:30 a.m. local time on Wednesday, Jan. 1, after receiving a report of a drowning, according to a statement from the Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD) revealed.

Authorities from the Seventh Division of the LMPD discovered the infant who had drowned upon entering one of the rooms, according to police reports.

Efforts were made to administer CPR and other life-saving techniques on the infant “until EMS arrived on scene,” but unfortunately, the child was pronounced dead at the scene.

Kiyah Winstead has revealed that the child is her 3-month-old baby brother Ki’arri.

“It’s really devastating because nobody would want anything like this to happen, especially at such a young age,” the 16-year-old sister said.

Kiyah has launched a fundraising campaign in the wake of her brother’s passing to “honor his memory and ensure he has a proper rest.”

The young individual expressed that Ki’arri “infused so much happiness and brightness” into the lives of others, “and his departure creates an irreplaceable emptiness.”

“This is a pain I could never have prepared for, as he was my first and only sibling,” Kiyah wrote in the fundraiser’s description. “The grief we are experiencing is indescribable, and our hearts are shattered.”

Authorities have announced that their homicide division is now looking into the circumstances surrounding Ki’arri’s death.

According to WDRB, there have been no charges filed.
