Boston, MA: Three individuals are being charged with assaulting and interfering with law enforcement officers who attended to an unruly party in Dorchester. The incident occurred over the weekend.
When officers from the Boston Police Department arrived at the location of 4 Sumner Square just after 4 a.m. on Sunday, they discovered many vehicles parked on the sidewalk on both sides of the street. The party was said to be quite noisy. According to the police, upon arrival, officers were able to hear loud music and noticed a large group consisting of approximately seventy individuals. These individuals were instructed to leave the area many times, but they refused to do so.
Luca Delgado Santos, 20, from Mattapan, was noticed by law enforcement officers playing music from a portable boombox to attract the attention of the crowd. As the cops approached Santos, they instructed him to turn down the speaker; nevertheless, Santos swung the speaker at the officer, causing him to strike the officer in the leg, according to the officials.
After that, the police took the speaker away from Santos, and a large throng gathered immediately around the officers. During the investigation, a second suspect, Stephanie Ilma, 24, from Mattapan, became exceedingly hostile toward law enforcement personnel and refused to retract her actions.
Ilma was notified by the officers that she was going to be placed under custody, and she immediately became aggressive by hitting multiple policemen, according to the police account.
The officers were able to safely take Ilma into handcuffs after a fierce struggle began between the two of them.
During the battle, Santos jumped on top of the officers who were attempting to intervene in the arrest of Ilma. He also refuted the officers’ demands to stop resisting and refused to comply with their orders. Santos was finally placed in handcuffs with the assistance of the officers who responded to the scene.
At this point, Miguel Martinez, who was twenty years old and from Boston, started to lure the crowd that had gathered around the officers who were making the arrests. Martinez was advised by the officers to leave the area; nevertheless, he refused to leave, and his refusal resulted in him being placed under arrest, as stated by the officials.
Within Ilma’s purse, the cops discovered a taser after conducting a search that was incidental to the arrest.
Ilma was charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm (a Taser), assault and battery with a dangerous weapon to the head, assault and violence on a police officer, resisting arrest, interfering with a police officer, disorderly conduct, and disturbing the peace. These charges were brought against Ilma.
Assault and battery with a deadly weapon, resisting arrest, interfering with a police officer, disorderly behavior, and disturbing the peace were the charges that were brought against Santos.
Martinez was charged with interfering with a police officer, disturbing the peace, and disorderly behavior. He was also charged with disturbing the peace.
