A man from Tyler was taken into custody in connection with a fatal shooting that took place earlier that day. The arrest happened on Sunday.
A charge of murder has been brought against Melvin Orlando Guevara, Jr., who is 21 years old and is presently being held in the Smith County Jail with a bond of $500,000.
The arrest complaint states that Guevara is accused of entering a residence in the 9000 block of County Road 4136 in Tyler with a pistol and shooting multiple times at one of the people who was inside the residence. At a later time, the victim, identified as Kelly Eduardo Torrez, 22, from Tyler, was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital due to the injuries he sustained.
It was said in the paper that detectives were able to locate Guevara by using a description of the vehicle that he was driving. According to them, he was discovered at the intersection of Highway 31 East and Loop 323, and a felony stop was carried out at a carwash.
Judge Clay White put his signature on the warrant that was issued for Guevara’s arrest as per KLTV News.
