2-year-old Fatally Beaten by Parents; Father Dumped Dead Kid in Dumpster as Mother Called Police to Fabricate False Story

Documents the 8 News Now Investigators looked at indicate prosecutors suspect a parent of a child discovered dead in a dumpster searched how to give CPR in the hours before a police officer made the horrific find.

Just weeks before the death of 2-year-old Jacoby Robinson Jr. on June 6, Diaja Smith, 23, reclaimed custody of the boy and his two younger siblings as the 8 News Now Investigators first reported.

Documents claimed indicate that police assume Jacoby died earlier in the day before Smith supposedly dumped his body in the bin close to Lewis Avenue and 14th Street. Claiming Jacoby was missing, she then dialed 911; police reported.

The next day, police arrested Smith under open murder charges. Police also detained 24-year-old Jacoby Robinson Sr., father. Last Monday a Clark County grand jury charged the parents with murder and child abuse.

According to statistics, Smith and Robinson have five children total—including Jacoby and the two younger siblings. Three earlier contacts with the family were noted by the Clark County Department of Family Services.

Although court papers showed that information was inaccurate and the youngster is actually a year younger, documents earlier mentioned Jacoby had a twin. Family said the two older children are no longer under parental custody.

Less than five hours after Smith called 911, police found Jacoby’s body inside the dumpster stating someone had abducted him from a park. Documents indicated the boy’s corpse displayed “significant signs of physical injury to [his] head, torso and buttocks.” Prosecutors believe Jacoby died earlier that day and that Smith carried his dead body in a pram with his siblings to the dumpster. Then she proceeded to a store to dial 911, according to prosecutors.

Documents claimed indicate Smith dumped Jacoby’s body in the bin immediately after 8 p.m. Documents indicated that someone searched for how to administer CPR using the elder Robinson’s phone about 12:44 p.m. Then someone searched for bus tickets from Las Vegas to Los Angeles and contacted using the gadget.

Police reported finding traces of a charging wire inside Smith’s residence that they believe she used to whip the children, records stated. Police claimed Smith told them she had not seen Robinson Sr. in a while, but in fact he was in and out of the flat, records indicated.

According to records, police suspected Smith beat the lads with a belt and power cable. Smith denied ever striking the kids and said, according to records, Jacoby had a seizure the day before he passed away. She further claimed that Jacoby passed death while in the stroller under video camera supervision.

Before Robinson returned to sleep, prosecutors also said that he remained with the child during the beating and observed the youngster throwing up and assisted Jacoby in getting vomit out of his mouth and nose.

As of Wednesday ahead of an August court date, both parents remained imprisoned without bond.
