11-year-old Smothered to Death by Mother along with 3 Dogs in California during Drug-Induced Episode

Honk News (Sutter County, CA) – A woman in California has been taken into custody and faces murder charges following the discovery of her 11-year-old son and three dogs deceased in the RV park where they resided.

Meagan Dixon, 44, remains in custody with a bond set at $1 million at the Sutter County Jail following the discovery of her son’s body on January 5. At approximately 10 a.m. that day, residents reached out to law enforcement to inform them of a disturbance caused by Dixon at the Lovey’s Landing RV park in Meridian, California, located around 55 miles north of Sacramento.

Upon arrival, authorities discovered the lifeless boy alongside the remains of three dogs—one located in the RV with him and two found in Dixon’s vehicle.

Authorities believed the boy had been deceased for several days.

At a press conference held on January 6 and broadcast on Facebook, Sutter County Sheriff Brandon Barnes revealed that evidence indicated the boy may have been smothered, reportedly by Dixon. According to witnesses present, there was a belief that Dix was experiencing a “drug-induced or manic episode.” Police were summoned following her involvement in a “verbal altercation” with another neighbor.

Barnes mentioned that the boy’s stepfather resided with the family, yet he was not regarded as a suspect. The child’s biological father has allegedly been absent from the family and is not considered a suspect. Barnes stated that there is no documentation indicating that Child Protective Services was ever contacted regarding Dixon or her son.

Barnes stated that an autopsy for the boy was in the works, and necropsies would be performed on the three dogs.

A local CBS affiliate engaged with several neighbors of the family, who observed that the boy had not been seen playing outside for several days. He was noted for potentially having high-functioning autism and frequently engaged in play with other kids in the neighborhood. A neighbor, choosing to remain anonymous, described the victim as “the sweetest little boy.” Simply adoring.

Dixon faced the court on January 7 for arraignment on serious felony charges, including murder, child abuse resulting in significant harm or death, and a drug-related enhancement for great bodily injury. She faced three felony charges related to animal cruelty. The upcoming court appearance is scheduled for January 27.
