10-Year-Old Left Alone at US Border on Thanksgiving After Being Abandoned by Smugglers
A 10-year-old boy was saved by Texas State Troopers after crossing the US border on Thanksgiving Day, where he was left behind by smugglers in a remote area.
The young boy from El Salvador, carrying just a cell phone, found himself alone and lost as he entered Maverick County, Texas.
He expressed to state troopers, with tears in his eyes, his hope of finding his parents. They had arrived in the country earlier and had relied on coyotes to bring him to family in America, according to Texas Department of Public Safety Lieutenant Christopher Olivarez, who shared the video of the child in an X post.
The region has become a focal point for unaccompanied migrant children.
Recently, Texas authorities discovered a 2-year-old girl from El Salvador who made the journey alongside 60 other unaccompanied children. A video featuring a Texas trooper interviewing a young child, who mentioned her parents were already in the US, gained widespread attention, igniting anger regarding the border situation.
“As many of us are celebrating Thanksgiving with our families & friends. Let’s not forget many children will not get to enjoy the holidays or see their families because they have been placed in a dire situation due to open border conditions, and many more who are trafficked across the southern border are exploited and exposed to a dangerous criminal environment during their journey to the US,” Olivarez said of the latest heartbreaking case.
