10-Month-Old Dies of Fentanyl Intoxication; Mother Charged with Neglect in Indiana

A mother’s 10-month-old daughter died from a fentanyl overdose, and Marion County prosecutors have charged her with Neglect of a Dependent Resulting in Death.

In July 2024, Sanyla Irby passed away in a hospital in Indianapolis.

According to an autopsy, the cause of death was “accidental” and the manner of death was “complications of fentanyl intoxication.”

Skyra Irby, Sanyla’s mother, faces criminal charges related to the death of her child.

According to court filings, Skyra Irby discovered Sanyla “cold to the touch” in her pack and play on July 12 and attempted CPR, but it was unsuccessful.

A backpack containing blue M30 pills, which are usually produced with fentanyl, was discovered by an IMPD detective who had acquired a search warrant for an apartment on Sebring Court.

The detective asked the hospital to run a complete toxicology analysis on Sanyla at that point.

According to court filings, Irby told a family case manager with the Indiana Department of Child Services that her address was actually on Centurion Circle, which is where the incident with Sanyla occurred.

After executing a search warrant on the flat on August 15, IMPD discovered that the residents had been evicted on August 7 after generating “numerous narcotics complaints.”

According to a Sebring Court lab report, fentanyl, heroin, marijuana, and bromazolam were among the drugs discovered. According to the detective, Skyra Irby never told hospital workers that her infant might have used drugs of any kind.

According to court filings, the Indiana Department of Child Services is responsible for Irby’s other two children.

The initial hearing for Skyra Irby, who is presently incarcerated in Marion County, is set for Tuesday at 10:00 a.m.
