Three men in Georgia are going to prison for the brutal rape of a woman at gunpoint, while her boyfriend was forced to witness the crime, followed by a robbery of the couple.
On Friday, a jury in Gwinnett County convicted the following on charges of rape, aggravated sodomy, and armed robbery related to the 2021 incident, according to authorities:
- Daquain R. Livingston, 21,
- Elijah Nil Curney, 20, and
- Dashawn Andrettie Harris, 18
Curney was found guilty of possessing a firearm while committing a felony.
A news release from the county district attorney’s office states that a terrible incident occurred on July 21, 2021, in the parking lot of The Falls at Gwinnett Place apartment complex.
Officials report that around 2 a.m. on the night of the incident, Curney, Harris, Livingston, and an individual with a prior conviction confronted the victims in the parking lot where their vehicles were located side by side.
The two victims later contacted 911 to report the robbery and assault. Authorities have verified that multiple vehicles in the vicinity were targeted for break-ins and theft, with one individual noting that a firearm was stolen from their car.
Authorities reported that by analyzing the descriptions of the assailants — particularly the height difference between Curney, who was 5 feet, 4 inches tall, and Livingston, who exceeded 6 feet and donned red jogging pants — they successfully located Ring doorbell footage of the group moments before the incident.
Prosecutors reported that DNA obtained from a rape kit matched Curney, while fingerprints discovered in the victims’ vehicles matched Harris.
Approximately a month following the attack, Curney found himself as a passenger in a vehicle that was halted and examined. Authorities found the firearm taken from a nearby vehicle inside the halted car.
All three individuals are scheduled to return to court on October 28 for their sentencing hearing.
